With Louisiana seeing the fourth-highest increase year-over-year at 51.6%. Chief Medical Officer at NOLA Detox & Recovery Center, Arwen Podesta, MD, wrote a piece for The Advocate discussing how those with addiction can recover if they can get proper treatment. “The root of addiction must be addressed with expanded access to addiction treatment options for all, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic status, Dr. Podesta wrote in The Advocate. Dr. Podesta finished by saying, “As I’ve witnessed with my patients, addiction is an illness that can be successfully treated with the right resources. The key is ensuring access for all who need it.” Read the full piece to learn more about the need for proper addiction treatment in Louisiana.
